Precision Sub-Arc Welding for Demanding Carbon Steel Tanks

Alps Welding is currently fabricating four carbon steel kettles for a recycling application in the energy industry. Built as open-top process tanks, this project highlights our capabilities as a carbon steel tank manufacturer and our extensive use of sub-arc welding in custom equipment fabrication.

Sub-Arc Welding in Carbon Steel Tank Fabrication

Sub-arc welding, formally known as submerged arc welding (SAW), has been used extensively throughout this project. It is a key part of the fabrication work behind these carbon steel kettles.

How Submerged Arc Welding Supports Fabrication

SAW uses continuously fed welding wire and a blanket of granular flux to shield the arc and molten weld pool. In suitable applications, its high weld-metal deposition rates and mechanized operation can support productive, consistent welding.

Joint preparation, component fit-up and control of welding parameters also influence the finished weld. Bringing these elements together is part of turning individual carbon steel components into custom fabricated equipment.
