We build vessels and components of all different shapes and sizes here at Alps. Once a unit is successfully fabricated in our shop, the next challenge is ensuring that each unit can be transported safely, efficiently, and in a way that aligns with project timelines and budgets.
This particular vessel presented a unique logistics challenge due to a protruding component that made conventional transport difficult. In its original orientation, the load would have exceeded standard shipping limits, requiring oversized load classification, along with the related permits, escorts, and costs.
To address this, our team designed and fabricated custom saddles tailored to the vessel’s geometry. These saddles allowed the unit to be safely repositioned and properly supported on the trailer, keeping it within standard transport dimensions while maintaining stability during shipment. The result was a project-specific solution that avoided oversized load requirements and saved the client over $30,000 in shipping costs!
Overall, it was an interestingly shaped unit that required an interesting solution.
