Trusted Replacement Vessel Manufacturer for Amine Column Sections

Stainless steel replacement column section with flanged ends in the Alps Welding shop.

Alps Welding is fabricating a 229-inch-long stainless steel replacement section for an amine column used in the oil and gas industry. Particularly, the project includes additional nondestructive examination (NDE), followed by chemical cleaning, pickling and passivation after fabrication is complete.

As a replacement vessel manufacturer, we support industrial customers requiring complete custom vessels or replacement sections for existing process equipment.

Stainless Steel Amine Column Replacement Section

Replacement projects bring their own fabrication requirements. Generally, dimensions, connection locations, and material specifications need to be coordinated with the equipment that will remain in service.

This amine column section provides an example of our stainless steel fabrication capabilities for custom industrial equipment.

Project Specifications:

  • Industry: Oil and gas
  • Equipment: Replacement amine column section
  • Material: Stainless steel
  • Length: 229 inches, approximately 19 feet 1 inch
  • Examination: Additional NDE
  • Surface treatment: Chemical cleaning, pickling and passivation
  • Storage preparation: Shrink-wrapping

Additional NDE for the Replacement Section

The fabrication scope includes additional nondestructive examination. Specifically, NDE allows materials and welds to be examined without damaging the component, with the examination methods selected according to the project requirements.

For replacement vessel fabrication, examination requirements need to be considered alongside the material specifications, fabrication details and required documentation.

Surface Treatment and Preparation for Storage

Chemical Cleaning, Pickling and Passivation

Once fabrication is complete, the stainless steel section will undergo chemical cleaning, pickling and passivation.

These treatments address surface contamination and welding-related surface changes, helping restore the conditions needed for stainless steel’s protective passive layer. Moreover, surface preparation is an important part of supporting its corrosion resistance after fabrication.

Shrink-Wrapping for Storage

Following surface treatment, the replacement section will be shrink-wrapped for storage. This is the next planned stage in preparing the fabricated component for the customer’s project schedule.
